DETAILED ITINERARY
This special honeymoon itinerary features the most alluring destinations and the charming countryside resorts. This itinerary takes you to the truffle and wine routes in Piedmont. Soak up the ambience and experience the Italians’ way of eating and drinking wine!
TRUFFLE HUNTING IN LA MORRA
The honeymoon starts with a 2 hour truffle hunting in La Morra, in the Piedmont area. The hunting starts from the highest Nebbiolo vineyard – from which Barolo wine is produced. The trail immerse into one of the last surviving woods of the area, mostly dedicated to wine cultivation and production. Firstly, the trail meets vineyards and hills, then a wilder nature, uncontaminated by human intervention. A spot rich in soil, mushrooms, musk scents, accompanied by the goudron flavour, the same emerging in the most precious Barolo wine.
Along the pathway, a special encounter: trifolao, the truffle hunter accompanied by his tabuj, the dog specially trained for truffle hunting, which will enchant participants with its cunning and energy. Participants will be accompanied to hunt truffles – the black Tuber Melanosporum and Tuber Albidum, and the white autumn Tuber Magnatum Pico.
PANORAMIC LUNCH AND WINE TASTING
The owners of this restaurant are one of the oldest families of restaurateurs in Piedmont, already managers of the well-known Ristorante Belvedere of La Morra for more than 40 years. They have now moved to a new place, in a panoramic position among the vineyards of Barolo. It is an informal but elegant environment, and you can see delightful views over the vineyards and castles of the Langhe through big windows.
VISIT OF THE BAROLO CHAPEL
The Brunate vineyard in La Morra, in Cuneo’s Langhe, is home to a colorful chapel purchased in 1970 by the Ceretto family with the six hectares of fruitful land around it. The small church, now deconsecrated, was dedicated to Our Lady of Graces but is now known as Barolo Chapel. It was in ruins, worn down by time and abandonment. Built as a refuge for farmers during bad weather, it had become a victim of bad weather itself. In the late 1990s, Sol LeWitt and David Tremlett decided to bring it back to life. LeWitt had a vision for the exterior, while Tremlett took care of decorating the interior. Now the extraordinary outcome of the two contemporary artists’ work is a joy for the eyes in a region of delicious flavors.
GUIDED TOUR OF THE UNDERGROUND CATHEDRALS IN COPPO AND WINE TASTING
The historical underground wine cellars of Coppo are a Unesco World Heritage site. They are part of the network of Underground Cathedrals, a temple of wine dedicated to its history and the hard work of man. The wine cellars have recently been renamed the “Underground Cathedrals”, for their spectacular beauty and historical importance. They are composed of galleries, tunnels, corridors and spacious arches lit by a light-play that underlines the monumental work done by those in the past who excavated the tuff rock at the heart of Canelli. Beyond its natural beauty, the calcareous tuff rock of Canelli is a precious ally for a winemaker: hard and stable, it creates the perfect thermal isolation, naturally maintaining a constant temperature between 12 and 14° C (57°F), creating ideal conditions for aging great wines.
First, you pass through the fermentation rooms of Chardonnay, vinified pure and as a still wine destined for whites with great mineral complexity. Then, you pass through the fermentation rooms of Pinot Nero, which makes the base cuvée of sparkling wines together with Chardonnay. Finally, you pass through the tunnels where Barbera ages and see where Riserve of sparkling Metodo Classico rests and learn the techniques of making the sparkling wines.
The guided visit to the Underground Cathedrals concludes with a wine tasting of 4 different wines that are representative of the winery.
GASTRONOMIC VISIT IN ALBA, THE WORLD CAPITAL OF THE WHITE TRUFFLE
Tartuflanghe is a family business based in Alba, the World Capital of the White Truffle. The company produces typical products and Truffle Specialties of the Langhe Region. Tradition and Innovation are key words, which combined together, allow the company to offer Gourmet Products, which are appreciated all over the world. All the products are manufactured in their kitchens: it is possible to see the pasta workshop, where they produce hand-made pasta, tagliolini and tagliatelle with truffle; the kitchens for the production of risottos, cheese specialties, sauces and truffle condiments; the laboratory where they select and wash the truffles and the chocolate atelier, for the production of the “tartufi dolci”, typical pralines with the Piemonte hazelnuts IGP. The visit is made up of two moments: firstly, the guided visit to the kitchens and workshops, where they prepare the hand-made pasta, the sauces, the condiments and where they select the truffles and the chocolate atelier; secondly, the guided tasting of the specialties in the Showroom, where they offer a buffet of their products.
GUIDED TOUR OF CASALE MONFERRATO
Casale Monferrato is a city full of art, history, traditions and culture, as demonstrated by the noble buildings, the historical palaces, the monuments, the churches and the well-known castles, which are around the hills of the area of Monferrato.
The old town centre is the best proof of the illustrious historical past of Casale Monferrato, with the castle and the civic tower, that was built in the XI century. There is also the cathedral, which is one of the biggest examples of Romanesque and Gothic architecture of Piedmont; the palaces in Mameli street, e.g. Palazzo Treville, that is a refined example of Baroque; the synagogue in the characteristic ghetto.
VISIT OF THE KRUMIRI FACTORY AND TASTING
Krumiri are made exclusively by hand, and always have been. It’s a simple but delicate process that requires experience and passion. The fresh eggs are cracked open by hand to keep the yolk perfectly intact. They are then added to the flour, butter, sugar and vanillin. When consistency is just right, the mixture is left to breathe for a whole day. Because all good things only come to those who wait. You will visit the Krumiri factory and taste the King’s favorite nibble.
GUIDED TOUR OF TURIN
Turin is Italy’s regal city per excellence, being the first capital of unified Italy, when the Kingdom of Italy was founded in 1861. The city is also the birth town of the first King of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II of Savoy. Also some of the major political figures and influential thinkers of that time were born here, among whom Cavour, a leading figure in the movement toward Italian unification and Italy’s first Prime Minister. Nearly all of Italy’s history leading to the unification was centralized in Turin. The grandeur of Turin can be witnessed all over the city: in the Palazzo Reale, Palazzo Madama, Palazzo Carignano, the large, majestic boulevards and the arcaded shopping streets, and, of course, in La Venaria, Turin’s equivalent of Versailles.
Turin is the city where Italian cinema was born at the beginning of the 1900s. Major inventions and improvements made in Turin contributed to turn film making into what it is today. The spectacular National Cinema Museum traces the history of the seventh art from its early beginnings until today. The design and structure of the museum make it unique in its kind in the world. It is housed in the city’s iconic building, the Mole Antonelliana, which also happens to be the world’s tallest museum. The building was once also the tallest masonry building in the world, until the 1953 collapse of its pinnacle. Since then, the structure has been reinforced with iron, reason why it can no longer be considered exclusively a masonry structure.
THE CHOCOLATE TOUR IN TURIN
The continuing love story between Turin and chocolate began as far back as 1560: in celebration of the Ducal Capital’s move from Chambéry to Turin, Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy served a symbolic cup of piping hot chocolate to the city. An authentic passion that has created specialties now known throughout the world has also continued to stimulate the imaginations of the master chocolatiers over the centuries. Indeed, it was here in the Savoy Capital that the Bicerin – a glass of hot coffee, cacao, and milk cream – was conceived in the 1700s. By way of chocolate, the maestros of Turin knew exactly how to express their taste for innovation, so much so that they experimented with new mechanisms to mix cacao, vanilla, water and sugar into a malleable paste (beginning 17th Century). They discovered that they could transform the chocolate into solid bars, thus giving life to chocolates, or cioccolatini, of every type – from bon bons to pralines, truffles and cremini.
